Since the Food Centre was created, volunteers have played an essential role in the Centre’s ability to serve its clients. Today about 70 people volunteer on a regular basis.
Volunteers who work at the Centre are divided into morning and afternoon teams for each of the four weekdays the Centre is open. (The Centre is closed Wednesdays.) The morning teams portion food and prepare the supplies so that the afternoon volunteers, who greet and interview clients, can assemble their food requests in an efficient and timely manner. These volunteers are carefully trained and supported by their team leader. The Food Centre’s protocols and volunteer manual are reviewed on a regular basis.
Other volunteers help the Centre by delivering the food from food drives at their Church, serving on the Management Committee, or helping with food drives.
